(Chief Advisor)

Josh Halpern began his career in the education industry as a drama and English teacher at the T.A.S.I.S. international school in England. He later settled in Spain where he served as an academic adviser for the Fulbright Commission prior to launching his first company, IdiomArts Education, S.L., providing language services through the performing arts to youth, ages three to eighteen. He served as the regional manager for Georgetown University’s Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) managing operations throughout Central America and the Caribbean. Mr. Halpern then joined Identity, Inc. to develop and manage cross-cultural training curriculum within the Maryland public school system. He later moved to Beijing, China as the head of strategic development for China Prep, LLC, an interactive educational tourism company with representatives in New York, Beijing and Shanghai. Josh moved to Mumbai, India where he served as the V.P. of Business Development for an education investment firm, Edvance Learning, Pvt. started by the former president of the Times of India Group.

Mr. Halpern is a founding member of the Beijing Improv Troupe and sits on the advisory board to Hua Dan, a non-profit organization in China providing communications and life-skills workshops through theater for Chinese migrant workers.

He holds a B.F.A. from New York University, a TEFL degree from Cambridge University, an MBA from INSEAD and an EMBA Tsinghua University.

(Curriculum Development Director)

Over the last thirteen years Ms. Dowling has worked in the Education sector as a teacher, trainer and program manager for unique literacy and drama programs. As a teacher for a leading international private school, Dulwich College Beijing, Lottie spent six years overseeing the creation of their Drama and Literacy Curriculum. She is now enjoying her role as a manager of a groundbreaking pilot program in English literacy being implemented across Chinese state-run primary schools in Beijing. Her programs impact 2000+ students a year and has set the stage for a new international curriculum within the Chinese public school system.

In 2005 she first met Culture Agents founder, Josh Halpern, as founding members of the NGO, Beijing Improv. Lottie has gone on to lead countless improv drama workshops and trained facilitators to become experienced improvisers. She has performed in hundreds of improv shows and travelled abroad to share Beijing Improv’s success with neighboring communities.

She is passionate about educating and inspiring the leaders of tomorrow through innovative platforms like Culture Agents.

A qualified chartered accountant, Peter left the world of global finance after 13 years to become a teacher, and six years later has not looked back. Peter has taught Science, Math, Business & Economics and English in public and private institutions in China and his native Ireland. Currently living in Beijing with his family, Peter brings to our organisation, passion, commitment and above all, a keen and qualified prescience for the emphasis that will doubtless be placed upon global competency in the business world of the future. He has made it his mission to prepare today’s generation of young global citizens for tomorrow’s challenges.

Ms. Li, a proud Beijinger, is no stranger to overseas education spending as she did, a large portion of her high-school years in New Zealand. She returned to her hometown of Beijing for university and subsequently majored in International Economics and Trade at North China University of Technology. For the five years that followed her graduation she was an English teacher before becoming involved in a unique family-oriented study abroad project. The Little Diplomats Educational Tours Program, in which she held a key management role for two years, was unique in the sense that it included both student (some as young as four) and parent(s).  The participant Chinese families would travel to the U.S.A. for a period of up to six weeks. The students attended a regular local school in the daytime while the parents would attend a variety of life-improvement classes.  It was during this time that she came to the realization that culture is just as important as the language itself in terms of integration for students. It is this realization that brought Ms. Li to Culture Agents.

As a creative, enthusiastic, and highly qualified teacher, Chris has been reaching out to children of all ages since he was very young. He has worked in volunteer programs in Central America and has been teaching students in both public schools and private learning centers in Beijing, China. His exciting personality and innovative vision in the classroom creates a dynamic atmosphere that all students enjoy. His passion for teaching and for connecting kids with new educational and cultural knowledge is instantly recognizable. With his skills and abilities he aims to build a brighter future for tomorrow’s generation.

(Graphic Designer)

Rizwan holds a college degree in arts and diplomas in graphic & illustration suite, AutoCAD & Microsoft Office from Arena Multimedia Lahore-Pakistan. Rizwan set his career in motion by joining The Zaib Printers as a trainee and honed his skills as a graphic designer. He has now over 15 years of experience in print & web media design. He has also served multinational & semi government organizations throughout his career, including for the Specialty Process Equipment Corporation-SPEC (US based Oil & Gas Company in Pakistan), Technology Upgradation & Skill Development Company-TUSDEC (Semi Government Company under Ministry of Industries, Pakistan) & Grand Hyatt Dubai (Five star property of Hyatt Group in Dubai). He believes in cultural education and working to deliver a better & fun way of understanding for a new generation.

(Designer and Art Director)

As a Designer and Art Director, Modi Li understands how to use design to create compelling integrated brand communications. Born in China and raised in the U.S., Modi graduated in 2006 from New York's School of Visual Arts in Graphic Design. She has worked at renowned advertising agencies in the U.S. such as AR New York, Saatchi & Saatchi New York, and PMH, Minneapolis on global accounts including: Banana Republic, St. Regis Hotel, Gap Inc., Target, and JC Penney. With a passion in the field of creativity in education, Modi left a high profile advertising job behind to pursue a graduate degree in education at Peking University. She is currently living in a hutong apartment in Beijing where she works on various education and design projects including the Culture Agents branding, app and web design. She is an avid anti-Xenophobe crusader and an honorary Culture Agent.

Ethan is a young man from China’s far-famed northeastern province of Jilin. He has been studying finance at Central University of Economics and Finance for four years and originally joined Culture Agents as part of our “Education Fellowship” program. The experience of working in a multinational team has allowed him to realize the importance of improving cultural literacy and global competency among younger age groups. Ethan feels a strong sense of duty to the next generation of Chinese students and wishes to assist them on their journey to becoming global citizens in any way possible.

Chen holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), and continues her master education in Translation and Interpretation in Beijing. With a Interested in inter-cultural communication, she is a qualified translator and a part-time interpreter. Chen’s passion is teaching and she often assists our facilitators in their classroom environment.

Joseph Pigato

Joseph is an international web executive CEO and serial entrepreneur. He is currently the co-Founder and Managing Director of Sparked.com and is based in Silicon Valley. He sold his first company to Washington Post and has led teams as CEO across Asia. He holds an undergraduate degree from Stanford and an MBA from Wharton School of Business.

Anshul Arora

Anshul Arora is Founder and CEO of Edvance Learning, an education holding company India with interests in early childhood development, online education and vocational training for high-growth industries. Prior to founding Edvance, Arora worked with McKinsey & Company in Asia, Europe and the United States, primarily in the areas of new venture creation, corporate finance and international development. He has served numerous government and not-for-profit organizations, including central banks in Southeast Asia and the International Federation of the Red Cross in Geneva.  Arora received a bachelor's degree in economics from Amherst College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Peter Winn

Peter Winn is the former President and Founder of EF English First Professional English. In 8 years under Peter’s leadership, EF Professional English became the China’s largest and most recognized language training brand with over 60,000 concurrent students and schools across the country, including 35 training centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Tianjin. Peter was awarded the Education Sector Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010 by Sohu.com.

Peter has over 15 years’ experience in greater China in operations management and strategy, brand development, online and offline marketing, and multi-site retail development. Prior to joining EnglishFirst, Peter held executive positions in mainland China and Hong Kong with Wharf Holdings, McKinsey & Co. and UBS. Peter received a BA in Politics from Princeton University, an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton Business School. Peter speaks Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese.

Paul Wang

Paul Wang is the president of Rise Education, a company of Bain Capital, and Metrics China Educational Technology Co.,Ltd, a startup educational technology company. Paul entered education sector in 2007 and successfully delivered immersive subject English training to China, and built up Rise as the largest afterschool program in China, which servers 100,000 kids all over the China. After starting Rise, he realized the value of assessment towards teaching and learning, and started to focus on the most reliable educational assessments using technology in the world. In 2013, Paul started Metrics China, which cooperates with Northwest Evaluation Association and languametrics in the United States to promote the application of high quality educational assessment technologies in China.

Paul Wang graduate with a Bachelor degree in Economics from the Beijing University of International Trade and Commerce in 1987 and received and Executive MBA degree from Monash University in Australia in 1999. In2006, he got his doctoral degree in Communications at the Communication University of China and has carried out his postdoctoral research at the Journalism and Communication School of Tsinghua University from 2008 to 2010.
